Project Research Center: The Kesennuma-Oshima Fishing Cooperative Library (Management and practical use)
Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture
As part of the Conservation Project of Historical Documents on Fishery on Oshima Island, Kesennuma City, over 4,000 materials of the Fishery Cooperative Association have been cleaned, sorted and stored in the Oshima Fishery Cooperative Library, which was completed in September 2015. The facility is used by local residents and serves as a research center for the ISJFC and students of the Kanagawa University Graduate School of History and Folklore Studies. The materials will be maintained and used, with local people involved through a reading circle of Oshima’s fishery documents and photographing of the materials to be saved as digital data.
We are also planning to compile and publish reports on our past activities and symposiums as part of Kanagawa University’s effort to restore the areas affected by the 2011 earthquake.
